NICOLE MOUDABER
For every chancer and charlatan in clubland jumping on a bandwagon or peddling dirge, there’s a passionate promoter who lives and breathes music, endlessly searching for the right DJs and the most exciting sound on the scene - a story of genuine pioneering. Nicole Moudaber is one of these stories. Nicole spearheads Soundworx, one of the longest running nights (5 years and counting) at legendary London club Turnmills, dubbed (the best backroom in London by DJ Magazine). Born of a love for the underground, the night has showcased emerging talents from around the world alongside stellar global names. The uber-backroom has become the main attraction for true clubbers looking for a night of dirty, addictive beats, and the atmosphere buzzes with a vibe of excitement and potential discovery. Heard it all before? Ask their DJs who come back time and time again... 2006 has hosted King Unique, Tony Thomas, Rene Amesz (NL), DJ F.E.X (Paris), Peace Division, Chus & Ceballos (Spain), Pete Heller (UK), Steve Porter (US), OMID 16B, Justin Drake, James Mowbray (Soundworx Resident), to name but a few. Even Pete Tong has been known to finish his set in the main room and drop into Soundworx to check out who’s manning the decks, and the hot new sounds they’re responsible for.
Nicole has racked up many firsts – the first person to put on a tribal night at Ministry of Sound, the first agency to book and promote (The Iberican sound) that has taken Spanish dance music to a new level and made stars of DJs like Chus and Ceballos, Dr Kucho and Wally Lopez – through her WorldBeats agency www.worldbeatsonline.com. But her story began in her homeland of Lebanon – where Nicole became the first person to bring dance music to Beirut and provide big name DJs with a taste of the Middle East. Hosting an unforgettable party between a bombed out mosque and a church, Nicole proved that dance music had the power to unite, an ideology that’s become all the more relevant throughout the years. Upon moving to London she ran Southeast Recordings, which became home to artists like Steve Thomas, Christian Hornbostel, T-Total and Tom Stephan. “I fell in love with house music in NY back in 1989, hearing Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia” says Nicole. Since then I’ve travelled the world chasing the best parties, from Paris to Madrid, Amsterdam, NY, LA, London, Ibiza and beyond. Now Nicole has begun producing records, and working with DJ/producer Justin Drake of Peace Division. The duo will see their first collaboration, a re-make of the legendary house track, Ma Foom Bey by Cultural Vibe, released on the U.S. label, Easy Street Records, scheduled for a Spring/Summer 2007 release…….this one will definitely make the scene in Ibiza ever hotter this year!!!
