Ma Foom Bey
“Ma Foom Bey” is generally acknowledged to be one of House Music’s 1st big hits. The minimalist production; heavy rhythm parts; & “deep” vocals immediately excited the club world when it was released in 1986
and set the standard for future House releases. Featuring a hypnotic African style chant and throbbing bass line, it soon became an essential part of every key DJ’s repertoire. The 12” featured the songwriting
talents of Winston Jones & Eddie Davis who were ably assisted by the editing skills of Tony Humphries, who would singlehandedly start the buzz on this record during his celebrated tenure at Club Zanzibar.
Although “Ma Foom Bey” has frequently been included on many CD “Classic” compilations, it has not been available as a 12” for many years & is now being re-released by Easy Street along with the 1985 classic,
“You Don’t Know”. There’s a whole new generation of DJ’s that have come along since the original release of this trend setting production & they will finally have the opportunity to experience first-hand, the raw power & pulsating beat of this timeless recording.
