 Asaph Womack
“Shelter Me”, Asaph Womack’s 1st release on Easy Street, became an instant dancefloor hit. The single, featuring some truly amazing mixes by Dennis Ferrer & Lenny Fontana is a gospel inspired anthem that was both written and performed by Asaph.
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Asaph began his musical career at an early age singing in his father’s church. His parents, Dr. Donald & Joan Womack are well known gospel television and radio personalities and Asaph appeared on many of their shows and performed with several prominent gospel artists including Walter and Edwin Hawkins, Reverend Lawrence Roberts and the Angelic Choir and others.
Asaph is definitely a multi-talented artist who of course is known for his vocal artistry, but is also an accomplished pianist, drummer, songwriter and producer. At the age of 17, he was the lead singer in an acappella group “True Image” that was signed by Chrysalis Records (UK) in the early ‘90’s. The group performed “It’s A Shame” with another Chrysalis artist, Monie Love that became a hit both in the U.S. and England. Most recently, Asaph was a featured vocalist on the legendary Kool & The Gang’s latest album.
In addition to his musical roots in the church, he has been inspired by such musical greats as Aretha Franklin, Prince, Bobby Womack, Marvin Gaye, Andrea Bocelli, Lauryn Hill and Celine Dion. Most importantly, however, The Creator has blessed Asaph with the gift of song and his inspiration always comes from above. His loving and humble personality, coupled with his God given gifts, will uplift and enlighten the souls of all who come into contact with him and his music. ‘
